Remember that blurb I wrote for International Women's Day on my Facebook?
I have to say that the hate and criticism towards Emma Watson and her speech is just completely asinine. Quite simply: if one of the largest objectives of the feminist movement is to dismantle the patriarchy-- which, I guess I have to remind you all, undermines and oppresses women who struggle to be seen, heard, and recognized as an equal people to that of men--
--how staggeringly counterproductive and hypocritical is it then for feminists to shut down/silence one of their own when she takes to the podium to say something positive, empowering, valid, and who's ultimately trying to create awareness in the name of feminism, all because she somehow isn't "the right kind of feminist" or "her struggle isn't real" or "she's white and privileged" or because "she invited boys to the party"?
--I mean, are you haters and nay-sayers for fucking real?
That's all I have to say on this.
P.S.: For Ø, for directing me to BGD's blog and I thank him. It was in the interest of generating discourse as is always his intention. For that alone, I'm ever appreciative of it and him :)
